Our History

The SHNS was started by Sonja Klassen on April 1, 1965 in the newly completed basement of the Springfield Heights Mennonite Church.

Tante Sonja built up this German language program in a Christian environment and provided the loving care and guidance that was needed for the first twenty-one years. After Tante Sonja’s retirement in 1986, the nurturing tradition of the school was continued by Marlies Klassen, Marlene Epp, Renate Dueck and Dina Albright, who is our current Director.

 

The school has also enjoyed the ongoing, dedicated involvement and support of many different child care assistants, board members and parents who have all contributed to the development and success of the school.
